A : 넌 지금 그와 맞서지 않는게 좋아.  너가 주도권을 잡을 때까지 기다려봐.

▶ Grin like a Cheshire cat ’(만족한 듯 환하게 웃는 미소로) 까닭없이 히죽히죽 웃다’ 이표현은 이상한 나라의 앨리스에서 유래 했다고 합니다. 동화에서 등장하는 ‘체셔 고양이’가 미소를 지으며 사라지는 장면에서 나왔다고 합니다. 그래서 상대방은 영문을 모르지만 스스로 만족하는 듯이 짓는 미소를 짓는다라는 어감이 있습니다.

▶ (be) a cold day in Hell ‘절대로 일어나지 않는다’ 성경에서 hell은 매우 뜨거운 장소의 상징이니까요. 절대로 추운 날이 없겠지요? ^^
Something will never happen or is highly unlikely. In the Bible, hell is described as a very hot and fiery place.

▶ Lock horns with (someone) ‘격돌하다. 맞부딪치다.’ 여기서 lock은 잠그다라는 뜻으로 어떤 부분이 맞물려서 움직일 수 없게 된 경우입니다. 두 마리의 사슴이 뿔을 맞대고 싸우는 모습을 연상해보세요.
To get into an argument. Two deer who have a dispute they want to settle will face off and charge at each other. Their antlers clash and often become enmeshed.
