B : My lips are sealed. I won't breathe a word about it to anyone.
A : I overheard the CEO saying that the company is going to wash its hands of the California plant.
B : Oh my God! That means hundreds of people will be laid off.

A : Tom 내가 걱정거리가 있는데, 비밀 지켜줄 수 있지?
B : 절대 얘기 않할께. 아무한테도 한 마디도 말하지 않을 거야.
A : 내가 우리 CEO가 캘리포니아 공장에서 손을 땔 거라는 이야기를 하는 것을 엿들었어.
B : 세상에! 그러면 엄청난 사람들이 실직하게 되겠네.

▶ get something off one's chest 직역하면 ‘가슴에 있는 것을 꺼내다’라는 표현인데요, 잘 생각해보면 혼자서 마음속에 담아 뒀던 ‘근심, 걱정거리를 이야기 해 마음의 짐을 덜어 놓다’라는 뜻입니다.
To confess, or speak about something that has been bothering you, especially when doing this brings you relief. People who are worried or angry about something often feel a physical sensation in the chest from the stress and tension caused. Dealing with the stress (by saying something) gets rid of that feeling - getting off your chest.   

▶ one's lips are sealed 직역하면 '내 입술을 봉인하다' 즉, '비밀을 지키다/입을 꼭 다물다'라는 뜻입니다.
Something you say when you promise to keep a secret. If a person's lips were truly sealed, they would not be able to talk even if they wanted to.

▶ not breathe a word (about something) 말 그대로 ‘한 단어도 호흡하지 않다’ 즉, ‘한 마디도 '말하지 않다/비밀을 지키다’라는 뜻이죠.
to keep a secret about someone or something.

▶ wash one's hands of (something or someone) 직역하면 말 그대로 ‘당신의 손을 무언가로부터 씻는다’인데요, 흔히 하는 말 있죠? ‘나 손 뗐다’라는 표현입니다. 완곡하게 표현하면 ‘더 이상 그 일에 대해서 책임을 지지 않겠다’이죠.
to stop being involved with or responsible for someone or something, usually because they have caused too many problems for you.
