■ John keeps badgering me to join this pyramid scheme.
  John이 계속해서 다단계를 함께 하자고 계속 조르고 있어.

A : John keeps badgering me to join this pyramid scheme.
B : I hope you told him that he's barking up the wrong tree.
A : Of course I did, but he just won't take `No' for an answer.
B : Yeah, sometimes he can be as stubborn as a mule.

A : John이 계속해서 다단계를 함께 하자고 계속 조르고 있어.
B : 난 그에게 헛다리 짚지 말라고 얘기 해줬으면 해.
A : 당연히 내가 말했지. 하지만 그가 내가‘No’를 해도 받아들이지를 않을 뿐이지. 
B : 그래. 그 친구가 원래 고집 불통이자나.

▶ badger (someone) 상대방에게 뭔가를 계속 물어보거나 조르다. 
to get someone to do something by repeated questions or by bothering them. A badger is an animal  that is extremely tenacious when cornered and has the ability to bite its prey until it's teeth meet. 

▶ bark up the wrong tree 어떤 상황을 잘못 짚다/엉뚱한 사람을 비난하다.
to choose the wrong course of action, to ask the wrong person. Hunting dogs were trained to chase an animal up a tree so that it could be shot. Often a hunting dog would make a mistake when chasing an animal and bark up the wrong tree.

▶ as stubborn as a mule 말과 관련 있는 짐승을 하나 들라면 노새(mule)가 떠오르는데 노새는 말과 당나귀의 잡종으로 힘이 아주 센 동물입니다. 농부들에게는 아주 요긴한 일꾼이라고 할 수 있죠. 그러나 한편으로는 고집이 너무 세서 자기가 움직이고 싶지 않으면 꼼짝도 하지 않는답니다. 그래서 아주 고집 센 사람을 보고 as stubborn as a mule 즉, ‘(간혹 자신의 의견이 틀렸음에도) 노새처럼 고집을 부리다/고집 불통이다’라고 합니다. 이 말은 주로 부정적인 의미로 쓰이는데 특히 아주 다루기 힘든 사람들을 보고 이렇게 말하는 경우가 많습니다.
very stubborn. to be very determined not to change your decision or opinion about something, even when it is wrong.
