■ Holy cow! I can't believe you got them to agree to a settlement out of court.
  맙소사! 저는 당신이 법정에 가지 않고 그들과 합의하게 했다고 해서 정말 깜짝 놀랐어요.

A : Holy cow! I can't believe you got them to agree to a settlement out of court.
B : I had to do a little horse trading. but we should get the lion's share of it.
A : It looks like the lion's share of the settlement is going to the family of the boy who was killed.
B : And that's as it should be, but we'll make a pretty penny, too.

A : 맙소사! 저는 당신이 법정에 가지 않고 그들과 합의하게 했다고 해서 정말 깜짝 놀랐어요.
B : 저는 합의 하기 위해서 엄청난 노력을 해야만 했어요.
A : 그 합의 점에서는 가장 큰 몫을 죽은 소년의 가족이 갖게 될 것 같은데.
B : 당연히 그래야지요. 하지만, 우리도 역시 상당한 돈을 받을 거예요.

▶ Holy cow 놀람이나 기쁨 또는 놀라움을 표현하는 감탄사입니다. 이것은 백 년전 쯤부터 쓰기 시작했으며, 보통 스포츠 선수들이 사용하고 있습니다.
used to express strong feelings of astonishment or pleasure or anger. It's at least a hundred years old and appears to have been adopted by sports players as a means curse while avoiding penalties for using obscene or indecent language.

▶ horse trading 말이 대중 교통 수단으로 사용되던 시절, 말을 사고 파는 것은 아주 큰 비지니스였습니다. 그런데 일반인들은 어떤 말이 좋고 나쁜지를 구별 할 수가 없어서, 거래를 성사시키기 위해 사기를 치는 사람들이 많았습니다. 말을 사고 파는 사람들은 거래를 성사시키기 위해서 정책상, 오랫동안 협의를 통해서 물건을 사고 팔기를 해야 했었고, 그 이후로 ‘horse training’은 ‘제대로 타협해서 물건거래 하기’를 의미하게 되었습니다.
bargaining in a hard and skillful way. The term horse trading, dates back to around 1820, and owes its origin to the notorious shrewdness of horse traders who bought and sold horses. In politics, it implies any long drawn-out negotiation characterized by hard bargaining and compromises.

▶ the lion's share (of something) ‘가장 크고 좋은 몫’이라는 뜻으로 이솝 우화에서 나온 표현입니다. 사자와 말과 여우가 공동으로 고생하여 사냥을 하였는데 분배 할 때, 말이 3인분의 몫을 균등하게 나누었더니, 사자가 화가 나서 말을 죽여버립니다. 이후, 여우에게 분배를 맡겼는데요, 여우는 아주 작은 동물 한 마리만 갖고 나머지를 모두 사자에게 주었습니다. 그런데 사자가 묻습니다. ‘넌 이런 분배 예절 법을 누구한테 배웠느냐?’ 여우가 대답을 합니다. ‘바로 방금 사자님이 죽이신 말이 가르쳐 주었습니다’ 라고 말이죠. ^^
the biggest part or share of something. The phrase comes from Aesop's fables in which the lion would divide a prey in such a way that it gains the greater part, or even all.

▶ a pretty penny penny는 푼돈.동전 등을 의미하지만 pretty와 만나면 꽤 많은 돈을 가리킵니다.
A considerable sum of money. The origin of this phrase is attributed to special gold pennies, worth much more than other pennies, that Henry III had coined in 1257. Since they were more valuable than the silver pennies, they became known as pretty pennies.
