The whole population is stirred up with the talks of “Don’t ask why” senseless murder case.[in korea] This bizarre incident of a senseless killing which targeted an unknown person at random has heated up the discussions online, also intensifying arguments between the sexes. The stormy voices of warnings about the people receiving psychiatric treatments seem to be escalating. The government in response is pouring out various measures to prevent such tragedies. One of its key preventative measures was a strengthened surveillance of those needing observation but it will surely ignite the arguments on the violation of human rights.

Looking at the tragic events, it should be examined especially more closely by noting that this is an indiscriminate violence of a man against woman (and vice versa of course also exist). Only by doing so, the actual fundamental cause of this phenomenon can be pinpointed and appropriate precautions can be taken thereafter. The cause of the "Don’t ask why killings" is only one. It is due to unequal distributions of income.

A not long ago I saw an interesting scene while watching a wildlife documentary. A male bear’s violence against female bear went as far as even killing in severe cases. The reason for its ruthless violence against the female bear was only one. It was because there was no possibility for him to get the female to bear his offspring. From the stress of ending as the loser from a fight with other males, the despaired bear angrily attacked a female bear to victimize as his easier target instead. Inherent in his choice was to kill the female bear to deprive the other males of any opportunity for future generations.

It is also the same for the human beings. The Korean young generations are living under a tremendous stress. The biggest stress is the problem of finding a job. One must find an employment in order to earn money, to obtain the economic stability to enable dating and getting married to plan for the future. If one cannot obtain such economic opportunity, he is forced into extreme circumstances to give up any dating and marriage all together.

This kind of circumstance can lead to anger against strangers, especially channeled toward women attacking them indiscriminately even though they are not dating him nor planning to marry him.  In this attack, his psychological motivation includes retaliation against other men to deprive them of an opportunity for love and marriage.

The small businesses’ hardship to find employees is comparatively high. The reason for this is because young generations turn only to large companies for employment. The widening gap of salary differences between the large and small companies are increasing, forcing them to avoid small companies and turning to larger corporations despite the narrowest door of opportunity to be hired.

The solution to prevent the indiscriminate “Don’t ask why killings” is not with just a “white washing” the issue by installing separate rest rooms nor strengthening surveillance of people. A fundamental basic cause of such rampant killings must be removed at the root.  As a start, the small businesses must be invigorated. With active stimulation of small businesses, the salary gaps between the large and small companies should be reduced and make the equitable economic distribution possible. When the young generation can turn to small businesses and obtain economic stability, they would be able to seek romance, marriage and dream about the future which would be the solution to prevent such tragedies of “Don’t ask why” killings.
