  당신이 우리를 완전히 곤란한 상황에 빠뜨렸어요.

B : I was just following John's advice, but....
A : Yeah, that took us out of the frying pan and into the fire.
B : I guess his advice isn't worth a hill of beans.

A : 당신이 우리를 완전히 곤란한 상황에 빠뜨렸어요. 
B : 전 그저 John의 충고에 따랐을 뿐이지만…
A : 네, 그게 바로 우리를 엎친데 덮친 격이 되게 했지요.
B : 그의 충고는 정말 쓸모 없는 것 이었네요.

▶ Fine kettle of fish ‘혼란한 상황, 불만족스러운 상태, 문제성이 있는 상태, 당혹스럽거나 곤란한 상황’을 의미합니다. 이 표현은 18세기 중반부터 사용되기 시작한 것으로 알려져 있는데 당시 kettle이란 것은 '무엇을 끓이는 용기, 그릇' 으로 정의 되어 있었습니다. 또한, 살아있는 물고기를 끓는 그릇에 넣으니 물고기 입장에서는 상당히 곤란한 상황에 처했겠지요.
A mess. This is a British expression meaning a sad state of affairs. It comes from an 18th century custom of throwing live fish were into boiling kettles, a predicament for the fish, of course. 

▶ out of the frying pan and into the fire 뜨거운 팬에서 나왔는데, 불속으로 들어갔으니 우리 나라 말로 치면 ‘엎친데 덮치는 격이 되다’라는 표현입니다.
to go from something bad to something worse. This is an allusion to a fish being cooked in the pan that jumps out and lands in the fire.

▶ Not worth a hill of beans ‘가치가 없는/쓸모가 없는’이라는 뜻입니다. 콩으로 만들어진 언덕은 정말 쓸모 없는 것을 강조하는 표현입니다.
